Wk07/08: Learning Journal Summary Look back at the HW1 Look back at the HW1 assignment and think about how you would approach it now.  Think about all the things we have covered and how far you have progressed. Highlight at least two victories.   It is very important to celebrate things that go  right . It is VERY easy, and common, to focus on the negatives. I want you to focus on the positive aspects and really reflect and be proud of the work you have done.  Mention 2-3 areas where your skills have improved, things like 'I really understand access modifiers', or 'I am comfortable extending classes', anything where you feel better now than you did at the start of the semester. The HW1 assignment was relatively straightforward compared to others. I don’t recall facing any significant challenges in completing it. For this assignment I did not follow a strategy, I simply followed the instructions.  Did you start writing code right away? Did you plan it out on paper? I started coding right away and backtracked to ensure I had the required number of branches and commits. What strategy did your classmates use? N/A What was your strategy for solving the assignments? For this assignment I did not follow a plan for the most part I simply followed the instructions. Did you start writing code right away?  WEEK 2   Lab 00 and Lab 01   In Lab 00 and Lab 01, we covered various concepts, including unit tests, Git commands, and interfaces. Unit tests are used to verify the functionality of methods. Every method in a class should have a corresponding unit test. We also learned several Git commands, such as git add . to stage all the changes made in the project, git commit -m “comment” to save the changes, and git checkout -b branch_name to create a new branch. Additionally, we explored interfaces, which serve as blueprints for a class, detailing the methods that must be overridden by classes that inherit from it. 

WEEK 1 CTS 338 WK01HW02 (Light) CodingBat String2, Maps, and functional The Coding Bat challenges weren’t particularly challenging, having    some experience with java I did recognize nearly all of the concepts needed to answer the problems. I did need to look up maps, as I’ve only worked with hash maps. For some of the challenges I used my IDE to familiarize myself with the available methods. Most of the challenges took me one to three tries to complete. I do think some of my responses could have used less lines. Overall, this was a great refresher.

The team’s presentation overall was great; it’s clear they put a lot of time into research for this project. They structured it well and provided an exceptional amount of detail. Week 7 Learning Journal Part 1: Reflect on your team's Final Research Video Project Planning. For our collaborative team project, we divided the workload using ChatGPT. We worked independently on our individual segments and discussed our progress on Slack.  One of my teammates took on the responsibility of editing all the videos into one.  WEEK 6 Part 1: Help Your Teammates to Develop Capstone Ideas In this week’s team meeting, we discussed our capstone project ideas. Everyone in my team was undecided about whether they wanted to work alone or in a team for the capstone. One of the intriguing capstone ideas was a medicine management system with potential applications in nursing homes. We also divided the workload for the upcoming video project.   Part 2: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal CST 349 For one of our assignments we developed a ILP portfolio website where we will store a portfolio of major assignments and projects we complete in each course through the program. The professor broke down the ten characteristics that companies are looking for when looking for new employees.  WEEK 5 Part 1: Support and Comment on Teammates' Goals Morgan’s education and career aspirations were far more comprehensive than mine and showcased his high level of ambition. He broke down and outlined his educational goals in a straightforward roadmap.  WEEK 4 Part 1: Set Your Educational Goals My educational goal is mainly to complete the CS program with a passing grade. I am considering earning my Master’s in computer science.  Part 2: Set Your Career Goals My career goal is to become a backend developer, although full-stack developers are more in demand. I simply believe in the old saying, “jack of all trades, master of none.” I believe I’d be more successful if I focused solely on one aspect of software engineering. However, I must admit that I’m coming from a place of ignorance. Becoming a full-stack developer might not be as challenging as I initially thought. Part 3: ETS Computer Science test prediction If I were to take the test right now, considering that I recognize most of the concepts but need a refresher, I believe I could score around 75%. Week 3 Part 1 In general I struggle to study in part because I have difficulty concentrating at times. The website provides a variety of useful tips, some that I think will help me concentrate and be more productive are getting up and changing my environment and avoiding daydreaming by reflecting on the material. I will also make an effort to instead of simply taking a break, exercise for about 10 minutes to reduce my stress and help me regain my focus.  Part 2 Review Program Policies This week as part of one of our required readings we got an overview of policies and student support resources. It provides examples of actions that hinder our education and the performance of our team, as well as actions that can lead to academic sanctions, such as plagiarism, fabrication of false data, cheating, and assisting someone in committing these actions.
